Lab-Tech AS is proud to announce that we have been appointed Exclusive Distributor for Great Basin Corporation’s products in the Nordic Area (Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland). Great Basin’s breakthrough approach to molecular diagnostics will provide simple, rapid, multiple-pathogen diagnosis of infectious diseases, combining isothermal amplification with chip-based detection in a sample-in result out format. Great Basin has created a molecular diagnostics platform based on bpHDA (blocked primer Helicase Dependent Amplification) with distinct advantages over current technologies. The first CE marked and FDA approved test is for detection of Clostridium difficile in fecal samples, followed by tests for MRSA and Tuberculosis (autumn 2012). Bühlmann Laboratories AG has now the protocol ready for automation of calprotectin ELISA on Dynex DS2 by using the Bühlmann Quick-prep - a stool extraction device already prefilled with the Bühlmann buffer. Protocols for other machines will follow shortly. A study at ECCO regaring calprotectin values in UC patients stated that a cutoff level of 250mg/g had a sensivity of 94% and specificity of 80%. Lab-Tech AS is a diagnostic company that primarily is focused on gastroenterology, with special emphasis on Calprotectin and its applicability in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
Our main focus is determination of calprotectin in fecal samples as a marker of disease activity in IBD patients. Bühlmann laboratories have the only rapid test (QuantiumBlue) and the best ELISA for quantification of calprotectin. Kits for both methods are produced in high and low range for optimal analysis as requested by physician.
We have focused on finding the best documented tests for gastrointestinal infections, like Clostridium difficile, Helicobacter pylori, Giardia imblia and Rotavirus to mention a few. There has been a great development in Rapid Tests over the last couple of years. Such tests have been hampered with low sensitivity and specificity, but this has changed dramatically! Today these tests are the most time- and cost effective alternatives with similar high sensitivity and specificity as PCR.
We also supply ELISA kits for determination of calprotectin in serum or plasma which has been shown to be a better marker for disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis than CRP and it has better sensitivity for identification of patients with high risk for ischemic heart disease than high sensitivity CRP. Interestingly, elevated levels of serum calprotectin was detected in patients with intestinal and pulmonary tuberculosis.
All of the above mentioned tests involve extraction of stool antigens. We have therefore made a kit: "EasySampler Faeces kit" to make stool sampling as hygienic and easy as possible. The kit can be purchased at most drug stores in Norway - or it can be ordered directly in larger quantities.
Lab-Tech also distributes other product useful in gastroenterology. The FlowCAST system for the detection of food intolerance is based on detection on activation of basophiles in whole EDTA blood and can detect food allergy independent of specific IgE antigen and is receiving increasing interest among gastroenterologist. This test is also very useful in the detection of allergies to several antibiotics, NSAID and it is the gold standard in hymenoptera allergy, were it is the only test that can differentiate between bee and wasp allergy.
The Bühlmann laboratories also have the "BEST IN TEST" ACE kit that can be run on most laboratory auto-analyzers, and also tests for diagnosis of neurological disorders like Gullion Barre syndrome and other degenerative neurological disorders and offers ELISA kits for the detection of antibodies to several gangliosides.
